Hampton Club Notes Round 13
Our Colts were facing up to the undefeated competition leader, a couple of boys out injured, we were always going to be up against it. However, no one counted for the value in mates supporting each other. When Temps goaled two minutes in and everyone got around him, it was clear to everyone who saw it that our boys had come to play to support their teammates who had lost their dear father the week before. No doubt Josh & Luke would have preferred not to be the inspiration this week, but it seems they were. Our young men leading by up to three goals at times showed great heart, but sadly not great kicking for goal. Halfway through the last quarter, we were still within a kick, but that’s when the mighty Dingoes finished us off. The final margin blowing out to 35 points as our boys ran out of petrol. Lewis and Josh Temps with three each, whilst both Tempany boys put on a courageous display, joined on the best players list by Sharp, O’Donovan, Lewis and Guiry.
The reserves, with their season on the line battled hard against the Dragons and simply refused to let go. Just when things looked lost late in a tight final quarter, we came again. Swifty’s shot from 45meters ten seconds before the bell was touched on the line. Had it been a goal, the final result would have been different, but it ended up as a two point loss nonetheless. Horrible luck for Josh Collins who has now injured his other knee. Expect to see him bounce back next season. Swifty’s four & Dandanis’ three goals were great to see and Roscoe worked his butt off all day, but few could argue that a more dramatic ending to a footy career has ever been seen after the spontaneous combustion of Trav Dorsett on the social club wing, all alone with the footy, just unable to go on!!! (please replace your divots Trav!!)
The Seniors started like a house on fire, leading by 33 points at quarter time, but from there it was hardly a dream come true for the Hammers as everything they touched turned to clay! With scores level late in the last there was some hope that a result could be resurrected from the mess, but it was not to be, with the Dragons taking the chocolates by just seven points. Scotty & Subby booting three each, whilst Drags put in his best performance for the year to date.
$5000 Draw is on August 8th. $100 per ticket, Spit Roast & Open Bar, and a chance to take home the big prize. Massive day. For tickets, contact Ian Nichol 0409 851 501 or Ian Dougherty 0418 817 162
