Round 5 Wrap Up.

15-May-2012

We were proud and privileged to be able to host Pink Footy and Netball Day at Peterson St Reserve. We thank Wayne Holdsworth and the SFL for this opportunity and from the sea of PINK around the ground we believe it was a wonderful success. Thanks to Skye for jumping on board and supporting the day. All funds raised on the day go to the Breast Cancer Network Australia. The success was only possible due to the fantastic work of Michelle Pearce, Kerrie Thornhill, Tab Ransom and Kerrie Brindell. Thanks Ladies. We look forward to participating again in 2013. With a sea of PINK around the Peterson St Reserve, we took on the might of Skye footy club. The ressies got off to a competitive start and were right in the game at half time. Skye then put their foot down in the third and piled on 8 goals. Unfortunately our inexperienced group couldn’t match it with the experience of Skye and eventually went down by 11 goals. Our better players were Mike Babovic, Hammer, Barney and Tommy Arthur battled hard. The seniors were very competitive early and went into half time a couple of goals behind. Skye got on top in the midfield in the third and piled on 9 goals to one solitary point. The game was effectively over but to our boys credit we managed to kick 5 in the last to show some respectability. At the end of the day we showed some good signs but Skye were too strong and we went down by 9 goals. Our skipper Lachy Batt led by example and was supported by Burgs, Rocca and Grovey. We continue to show some good signs but need to put 4 quarters of footy together next week against East Malvern. East Malvern will be a tough task, but with our continued development we look forward to the challenge. Don’t forget our upcoming SOCIAL EVENTS: $2,500 Draw on the night of 26 May, Past Players & 10 Year Grand Final Reunion on 14 July. As always we thank our wonderful sponsors and partners in Bendigo Bank Highett, Melbourne Roadworthy Centres, McDonald Slater & Lay Barristers & Solicitors, Ace of Clubs Rubbish Removal, Krishna Indian Restaurant and Marina Pizza.  This week we play Malvern away.
